Volunteer For DSCRC
Volunteers make it all possible. Volunteers are the face of the Desert Spring Resource Center. They are superheroes!
Help Serve Our Neighbors with Dignity and Care
Each month, volunteers make it possible for Good Choice Pantry to provide supplemental food to more than 3,700 people in our community. Whether you enjoy organizing, greeting guests, distributing food, driving, or helping behind the scenes, we have a place for you.
We’ll provide the training you need to get started.
Volunteer Opportunities
Stockers
Stockers keep the pantry ready to serve by receiving, weighing, sorting, and shelving food, removing expired items, breaking down boxes, and taking out recyclables.
- Lifting 25 to 30 pound boxes, if you are able. If not, there is still stocking shelves, organizing produce, baked goods, and pantry items.
- For safety, close-toed shoes are required.
Shifts: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Saturdays 8:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Grocery Guides
Grocery Guides help create a positive pantry experience by greeting customers, explaining food limits, and supporting basic pantry tasks during distribution.
- No heavy lifting is required, but volunteers should be comfortable standing for long periods and wear comfortable shoes.
Shifts: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday 3:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
Intake/Welcome Desk
Intake/Welcome Desk volunteers keep the front desk running smoothly by greeting customers, calling guests by appointment time, registering new customers, recording return visits, and helping with routine administrative tasks. This role requires Oasis training, basic computer skills, and comfort using a computer.
- No heavy lifting is involved.
Shifts: During food distribution hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturday
Grocery Rescue Driver
Grocery Rescue Driver helps bring donated food to the pantry by collecting items from grocery partners in and around Summerlin, transporting donations, and helping unload them. Drivers need a valid license and may use the pantry cargo van or a personal truck or SUV.
- This role may involve lifting 25 to 30 pound boxes.
Shifts: Grocery Rescue routes usually run from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday Pantry Support
Wednesday Pantry Support helps keep the pantry organized and ready by receiving and stocking weekly deliveries, cleaning refrigeration, and handling housekeeping tasks. There is no food distribution on Wednesdays.
- Heavy lifting may be required.
Shifts: Wednesdays, 8:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a 2-hour minimum.
Food Distribution Schedule
Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Special Event Volunteer Opportunities
DSCRC has partnered with the Rotary Club of Summerlin to volunteer at special events that directly benefit Good Choice Food Pantry.
This April, volunteers helped place T-shirts on seats before a Golden Knights game. It was a fun opportunity to serve, watch the Golden Knights practice, and see the arena nearly empty before game time.
Join our volunteer team and be part of future special events that help support Good Choice Food Pantry.
